The Wells Criteria is a widely used clinical tool to assess the pre-test probability of Pulmonary Embolism (PE). It helps determine the likelihood of PE based on a set of clinical criteria. Below is an HTML form for a Wells Criteria Calculator.
Wells Criteria for Pulmonary Embolism (PE)
The Wells Criteria assigns points based on the following factors:
Clinical signs and symptoms of DVT (e.g., leg swelling, pain with palpation): 3 points
PE is the most likely diagnosis: 3 points
Heart rate >100 bpm: 1.5 points
Immobilization (≥3 days) or surgery in the past 4 weeks: 1.5 points
Previous DVT/PE: 1.5 points
Hemoptysis (coughing up blood): 1 point
Malignancy (active or treated within the last 6 months): 1 point
The total score is used to classify patients into low, moderate, or high probability of PE.
