HEAL Forum 2025

The Iraqi Hypertension Society, in collaboration with the Iraqi Psychiatric Society and the Iraqi Family Physicians Society, and under the sponsorship of Viatris Pharmaceutical Company, held a scientific forum in Inlil Hall, Babylon Rotana Hotel, this Friday, 25 October 2025. The forum was moderated by Dr. Ghazi Farhan Haji, Consultant Cardiologist and President of the Iraqi Hypertension Society, and it included lectures by: Dr. Mohammed Hassan Al-Baghdadi – Consultant Cardiologist, Dr. Hasan Aziz Al-Hamdani – Consultant Neurologist, and Dr. Maha Suleiman Younis – Consultant Psychiatrist. The forum also features a discussion session on the role of digital technology in enhancing and developing healthcare, with the following panelists: Dr. Farah Rifaat Abdul Salam, Family Medicine Specialist and health awareness activist on social media, Dr. Hussein Fadel, Founder of Health 360, and Dr. Taha Iyad, Founder of the Salim App.

The forum discussed different topics about the recent guidelines update in Hypertension and also presented a real experience using telemonitoring tools to monitor a patient with heart failure who resides in a rural area, and how this method, though it is unique, improved this patient’s outcome when he was rescued from an ongoing myocardial infarction.

Dr Al-hamdani discussed the different types of pain from neurological perspectives and how technologies can improve their management, while Dr Younis gave a comprehensive overview of the past and current status of psychiatric facilities in Iraq and the role of psychiatrists in dealing with the difficult stigma of mental illness in Iraq as seen by ordinary people.

Finally, there was an interesting panel discussion on the role of AI and digital medicine in improving the current health services in Iraq introduced by three motivated junior doctors and website managers, including the active involvement of social media in awareness campaigns. This was an interesting session and was very informative and useful. The meeting was attended by a large number of Doctors and pharmacists, including some senior officials from MOH. This is an accredited forum.
