Uniting Discipline: A Focus on the Cardiorenal Metabolic Nexus 2025

With remarkable success, the city of Basra hosted the “Uniting Disciplines: A Focus on the Cardiorenal Metabolic Nexus” one-day forum organized by the Iraqi Hypertension Society and Iraqi Society of Nephrology and Renal Transplantation together with a distinguished group of local physicians and experts under one scientific platform in Grand Millennium Hotel on 17th of January 2025. The conference highlighted the vital connection between cardiology, nephrology, and metabolism, emphasizing their collective role in advancing healthcare quality and addressing the need for unifying the efforts between different specialties of cardiology, nephrology, and endocrinology to offer the best possible care for these complicated common cases that need different specialists opinions. The forum was covered with many distinguished speakers from these branches who gave their interim perspectives on dealing with such patients. Interestingly, there was a short review of some of the research articles from Basra Doctors that were published recently in international journals, in addition to a very nice overview by Dr. Falah, a well-known bariatric surgeon at Basra Center for Obesity Care, who expresses his experience on the thousands of patients for whom he did bariatric surgery including their outcomes and complications. At the end of the forum, there was a panel discussion about the need to establish a CRM clinic, and there was a general agreement about its establishment, at least in major centers to start with and they concluded that they would ask the decision-makers in the Ministry of Health to look for this demand. the forum was successfully moderated by Prof Hilal Alsaffar and Prof Ghazi Haji.
